Fans of South Park know what the MPAA Maxim is. It states "You can blow up, kill, maim and a-splode as many people as you want, just make sure we don't see their boobies or we'll slap you with an NC-17."
As are so many things these days- "As it is true in Hollywood, so it is in Washington." The Republicans have mismanaged, bungled and adventured a war that has cost billions of dollars and thousands of American lives and the American people have (mostly, for a while anyway) supported it, but it took Rep. Mark Foley's pedophiliac emails and IM's to finally drive the stake in the devil's heart, or whatever florid metaphor Hugo Chavez is using this week. The Republicans can not and will not survive this, nor should they.
Politically, the Mark Foley scandal is far worse than Clinton's daliance -- not only since the abuses were against a minor, but because the abuses come from a key member of the Republican leadership. It's the proverbial tipping point that illuminates the systemic corruption in the party and it will lead to investigation after investigation. Dems would be smart to make dmeand these investigations be quick and lethal, so that it the Republicans can be left with the charges of dragging their feet and obfusciating the evidence.
Of course, I'll tell you- this is a scandal not even the Democrats can muck up and political strategy aside, I'm offended and grossed out by the whole thing. Dennis Hastert should step down at once.
