From the NYTimes: "The overhaul of the White House staff continued today as
Karl Rove gave up his portfolio as senior policy coordinator to concentrate more on politics and November's midterm Congressional elections"
*What the Bushwick? As thrilled as I am that Karl's been demoted (and Scotie's gone too! I guess we'll never get to see his head explode in front of the pres corps. sigh), what the fuckity fuck? The American people should not be footing the bill for Karl Rove's Machievallian (possibly illegal) 2006 midterm election hijinks. Fuck no. If he wants to go monkey around in G.O.P. politics, fine, but not from the White House. How much more is George W. Bush going to dishonor the Presidency? I want my
$161,000 back, Mr. President.
UPDATE: Found this
survey of Bush's approval ratings by state through
Salon. Salon's War Room was all excited because it shows only a handful of states approving of the President (handful = 5), but what interests me is that a lot of states that went for Bush in 2004 disapprove of him more than states that went for Kerry. These "red swing states" aren't just the Ohio's and Florida's of the world either. Some of them have been written off by Dems since the days of the Republican revolution. Maybe it's time to think again. Here they are (in order of biggest Bush haters first):
- Nevada
- Ohio
- Iowa
- New Mexico
- Colorado
- Missouri
- Florida
- Virginia
- Arkansas
- Kentucky
